The Madras High Court has directed the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department to ensure a living wage for all staff working in public temples across Tamil Nadu. The court noted that temple staff salaries are often dependent on individual temple income, leading to low pay, with some cooks earning as little as Rs400 per month. The judges emphasized that the department cannot plead lack of resources and suggested innovative fundraising methods, including leveraging technology and social media.
