14 Pune Students Detained En Route To Delhi Protest Released

Fourteen students and activists from Pune were detained by Madhya Pradesh police at Itarsi while travelling to Delhi for a protest against the Election Commission. They were released on Friday evening after the MP High Court directed their production in court. The activists were demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner and electoral reforms. Following their release, the group decided to return to Pune and protest there instead of proceeding to Delhi. Allegations of excessive force and illegal confinement were made by the detainees.

चुनाव आयोग के खिलाफ विरोध प्रदर्शन के लिए दिल्ली जा रहे पुणे के चौदह छात्रों और कार्यकर्ताओं को मध्य प्रदेश पुलिस ने इटारसी में हिरासत में ले लिया था। शुक्रवार शाम को मध्य प्रदेश हाई कोर्ट द्वारा उन्हें अदालत में पेश करने का निर्देश दिए जाने के बाद उन्हें रिहा कर दिया गया। कार्यकर्ताओं ने मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त के इस्तीफे और चुनावी सुधारों की मांग की थी। रिहाई के बाद, समूह ने दिल्ली जाने के बजाय पुणे लौटकर वहीं विरोध प्रदर्शन करने का फैसला किया। हिरासत में लिए गए लोगों ने अत्यधिक बल प्रयोग और अवैध हिरासत का आरोप लगाया था।
