Sugar factories need farmer consent for crushing, says Karnataka Minister
The Hindu · india
Karnataka minister Satish Jarkiholi stated that sugar factories cannot begin crushing operations without the explicit consent of farmers. He highlighted that factory owners are hesitant to take risks due to uncertain prices and policy changes, attributing some issues to the Centre's political maneuvering over sugarcane and sugar matters. Jarkiholi emphasized that resolving disputes requires dialogue, considering both farmers' demands and factories' financial health. He noted that a common demand from both farmers and mills is the revision of the Minimum Selling Price (MSP) for sugar.
