Investments by insurance companies and the National Pension System (NPS) into Indian equities saw a significant drop of 45% in the September quarter, falling to ₹22,714 crore from ₹41,465 crore in the previous quarter. This marks the steepest quarterly decline in five quarters, with insurance firms investing ₹8,013 crore and NPS ₹14,700 crore. Higher bond yields and declining stock prices prompted these domestic institutions to shift towards debt instruments for better returns and reduced volatility. Despite this, mutual funds remained major domestic liquidity providers, investing ₹1.09 lakh crore.
