King Charles III has revoked the OBE honour awarded to British Indian landlord Nirpal Singh Riat. Riat, who received the award in 2010 for services to charity and the Punjabi people, was found to have brought the honours system into disrepute. He was fined approximately Rs 3.8 crore for renting out damp and squalid accommodation after illegally converting houses into flats. The decision to cancel his honour followed a review by the UK Cabinet Office's Honours Forfeiture Committee. This action is rare within the British honours system.
