The Mumbai bench of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) has deleted additions of approximately Rs 79 lakh made against a woman regarding the sale of shares. She had purchased shares for Rs 13.5 lakh and later sold them for Rs 77.47 lakh, claiming exemption on long-term capital gains. The Income Tax Department had rejected her claim, treating the sale consideration as unexplained. However, the ITAT found no evidence of the woman's involvement in alleged share price manipulation or bogus transactions, noting she had provided all necessary documentation.
