NMC Clarifies Foreign Medical Graduate Eligibility For FMGE Exam

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has clarified that foreign medical graduates must hold a licence to practice medicine in the country where they obtained their qualification before appearing for FMGE. This clarification addresses concerns regarding Georgia's six-year MD programme, where graduates gain "junior doctor" status. The NMC stated that this designation is only sufficient if it legally permits medical practice independently, as per Georgian law.

नेशनल मेडिकल कमीशन (NMC) ने साफ़ किया है कि विदेशी मेडिकल ग्रेजुएट्स को FMGE परीक्षा देने से पहले उस देश में प्रैक्टिस करने का लाइसेंस रखना ज़रूरी है जहाँ से उन्होंने अपनी डिग्री ली है। यह सफ़ाई जॉर्जिया के छह साल के MD प्रोग्राम को लेकर उठी चिंताओं को दूर करती है, जहाँ ग्रेजुएट्स को "जूनियर डॉक्टर" का दर्जा मिलता है। NMC ने कहा है कि यह दर्जा तभी काफ़ी है जब जॉर्जियाई कानून के अनुसार यह स्वतंत्र रूप से मेडिकल प्रैक्टिस की इजाज़त देता हो।
