The National Green Tribunal's southern bench has directed the Greater Chennai Corporation to ensure continuous processing of construction and demolition waste and enforce compliance with waste management rules. Following reports of illegal dumping, the tribunal noted that processing facilities had ceased operations and ordered GCC to arrange alternatives. Waste generators are responsible for management, and GCC must monitor compliance. The tribunal emphasized that building plan approvals and completion certificates should only be issued if projects adhere to waste management regulations.
