RBI's Net Short Dollar Position Hits Record $200 Billion Amid FCNR(B) Flows
Business Standard · business
The Reserve Bank of India's net short dollar position in its forward book surged to a record $200.06 billion by the end of August. This increase is primarily attributed to Foreign Currency Non-Resident (Bank) or FCNR(B) deposit inflows. Short positions with maturities over one year nearly doubled, while those under one year also saw an increase. Market participants anticipate these short positions may have peaked in August, with the RBI likely to limit spot interventions due to the nature of FCNR(B) flows.
