CJI Questions Litigants' Rush to Supreme Court for Early Hearings
The Hindu · india
Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has expressed concern over a growing tendency of litigants approaching the Supreme Court for early hearings in High Court cases. He noted that 65,54,788 cases are currently pending in High Courts nationwide, with the Supreme Court itself facing a backlog of 97,201 cases. Justice Kant questioned whether court processes could be improved to prevent such appeals, emphasizing the need for more effective urgent matter identification, transparent listing procedures, and technological assistance to ensure timely justice without requiring litigants to travel to the national capital.
