India's Cabinet Secretariat Flags Stent Safety Concerns After Sri Lanka Reports

Times of India · health

India's Cabinet Secretariat has raised concerns with the Union health ministry regarding the safety and quality of Indian-made coronary stents. This action follows a Rajya Sabha MP's intervention after reports of complications with these devices in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka's regulator had reportedly directed the withdrawal of three Indian-manufactured stent models due to issues like improper positioning and dislodgement. The MP urged for more stringent pre-market testing, end-to-end traceability, and improved adverse-event reporting for stents in India.
