Elephant Conservation Needs Habitat Connectivity, Not Just Climate Focus

Wildlife biologist P.S. Easa stated that habitat loss and fragmentation are the primary threats to elephants in India, more so than climate change. He emphasized that decisions regarding elephant habitats must be scientifically informed, as elephants require large, connected areas for their survival. Easa also questioned claims of food or water scarcity driving elephants into human areas, suggesting these need scientific backing. Prerna Singh Bindra highlighted a Supreme Court order for a nationwide survey of elephant corridors as crucial for their protection.
