Loud Celebrations Cause Subclinical Hearing Damage

The Hindu - Science · science

A new research paper published in Scientific Reports identifies 'subclinical hearing damage' from high-level amplified music at recreational and celebratory events. Sound pressure levels often exceed 90 dBA in India, potentially causing noise-induced hearing loss. This damage can be undetectable and permanent, affecting cochlear synapses without impacting outer hair cells. Even levels above 120 dB SPL can cause rapid ear damage, highlighting the risks of loud music at parties and festivals.
