Israel President Pardons Soldier in West Bank Case

Israeli President Isaac Herzog has pardoned Elor Azaria, a combat medic convicted of manslaughter for fatally shooting a wounded Palestinian attacker in the occupied West Bank a decade ago. The case garnered significant attention in Israel, where military service is compulsory. Defence Minister Israel Katz recommended the pardon, citing the passage of time and the approaching Yom Kippur holiday. Azaria had shot the attacker, Abdel Fattah al-Sharif, in Hebron after he had stabbed a soldier.
