The Gary Sinise Foundation has dedicated its 100th mortgage-free, specially adapted smart home to Army veteran Joe Bowser in November 2025. Bowser, who sustained severe injuries in Iraq in 2004, had initially declined the offer for years, believing other veterans were more deserving. His previous 1839 home in West Virginia presented significant accessibility challenges due to narrow hallways and stairs. The new single-story home in Tennessee is designed with five-foot-wide hallways and lower cabinets, providing Bowser and his wife a safer, more accessible living environment.
