Bank of England Hikes Interest Rates For First Time Since 2023
Business Standard · stocks
The Bank of England has raised interest rates for the first time in over three years, increasing them to 4% from 3.75%. This decision was driven by concerns over inflation, which is projected to reach around 5% by mid-next year, more than double the central bank's target. Governor Andrew Bailey indicated that further rate increases are likely if the US-Iran conflict persists, impacting energy costs. While one member voted for a larger hike, the committee's move signals a shift towards tightening monetary policy to combat rising prices.
