Japan's Nikkei share average plunged nearly 5% on Thursday, with artificial intelligence-linked stocks leading the selloff. Concerns over the financial health of US cloud-computing provider CoreWeave and fears of higher interest rates following hotter-than-expected US inflation data fueled the decline. Tech-heavy stocks like Advantest and Tokyo Electron saw significant drops, while SoftBank Group also fell. The selloff mirrored a decline in the US Nasdaq Composite, as investors reassessed interest rate outlooks and technology stock valuations. Pharmaceutical stocks, however, saw gains as investors shifted to defensive sectors.
