The anti-encroachment drive was initiated by the district administration, which claimed the structure violated building plan rules. Banerjee had alleged political motivation, asserting the office was legally constructed on purchased land with necessary permissions.

कोलकाता हाई कोर्ट ने तृणमूल कांग्रेस सांसद अभिषेक बनर्जी के अमताला स्थित दफ्तर पर चल रहे बुलडोजर अभियान पर रोक लगा दी है। जिला प्रशासन ने कहा था कि यह ढांचा बिल्डिंग प्लान के नियमों का उल्लंघन कर रहा था। बनर्जी ने इसे राजनीतिक साजिश बताया था और कहा था कि दफ्तर खरीदी गई जमीन पर सभी जरूरी इजाजत लेकर कानूनी तौर पर बनाया गया था।
