191-Acre Land Listing Sparks Major Indiana Conservation Effort Protecting 3,950 Acres
Times of India · environment
What began as an effort to save a 191-acre parcel in Indiana has expanded into a significant conservation project. Nearly 4,000 acres of former coal-mining land in Sullivan County are now permanently protected as the Busseron Creek Fish and Wildlife Area. This initiative preserves vital wetlands, forests, and reclaimed mining grounds for wildlife and public recreation. The project involved numerous organizations and public agencies, culminating in the acquisition's completion in December 2024, valued at over $12 million.
