Odisha's Debrigarh wildlife sanctuary has introduced AI-enabled on-demand camera traps, a first for the state, to enhance wildlife surveillance and conservation management. These cameras, powered by a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) AI engine, can identify eight specific wildlife species, including gaur, leopard, and sloth bear. The system processes images on-device, reducing manual scrutiny and enabling faster analysis. A central control room monitors live feeds, strengthening protection efforts and allowing officials to track wildlife movement more effectively. This technology makes conservation efforts more scientific and proactive.
