Israel's Supreme Court has overturned a ban imposed by the Central Elections Committee on two main Arab-majority political lists, Ra'am and the Joint List, from contesting upcoming parliamentary elections. The court ruled unanimously that the disqualification did not meet legal requirements. It also reinstated Ofer Cassif, a Jewish member of the Knesset from the Hadash party, who had been banned for allegedly backing armed struggle. The decision ensures Palestinian citizens of Israel, who constitute about 20 percent of the population, remain in the electoral race.
