Rupee Falls, Bonds Under Pressure as US Yields Climb and Crude Oil Surpasses $100

Business Standard · stocks

The Indian rupee depreciated by 0.5 per cent to 96.31 against the dollar on Thursday, marking it as the worst-performing Asian currency. This decline mirrors a broader trend influenced by rising US Treasury yields, a strengthening dollar index, and Brent crude oil crossing $100 a barrel. Benchmark 10-year government bond yields also surged to 7.21 per cent, their highest since April 2024. Persistent foreign fund outflows and risk-averse sentiment are further weighing on the Indian currency and debt markets.
