Supreme Court to Dismiss Bengal Plea Against Congress Candidate's Bail

The Supreme Court has indicated it will dismiss an appeal by the West Bengal government challenging the interim bail granted to Congress candidate Milan Pradhan. Pradhan is accused in a 2007 murder case and is contesting the Nandigram assembly bypoll. The state argued the High Court granted bail solely for election campaigning, disregarding Pradhan's criminal history. The bench stated it would dismiss the appeal on Monday, by which time electioneering would conclude, rendering the state's plea infructuous.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने पश्चिम बंगाल सरकार की उस अपील को खारिज करने का संकेत दिया है जो कांग्रेस उम्मीदवार मिलन प्रधान को मिली अंतरिम जमानत को चुनौती दे रही थी। प्रधान पर 2007 के एक हत्या के मामले का आरोप है और वह नंदीग्राम विधानसभा उपचुनाव लड़ रहे हैं। राज्य ने दलील दी थी कि हाई कोर्ट ने प्रधान के आपराधिक इतिहास को नजरअंदाज करते हुए केवल चुनाव प्रचार के लिए जमानत दी थी। बेंच ने कहा कि वह सोमवार को अपील खारिज कर देगी, तब तक चुनाव प्रचार समाप्त हो जाएगा, जिससे राज्य की याचिका निष्फल हो जाएगी।
