West Bengal's Education Minister Jagannath Chattopadhyay announced that approximately 225 out of 600 self-financed BEd colleges will be prohibited from admitting new students this academic session. This action follows inspections revealing academic irregularities across various self-financed institutions, including pharmacy colleges and technical institutes. Many colleges were found to share single addresses, indicating potential operational issues. The minister highlighted discrepancies in degree distribution versus employability and the lack of vice-chancellors in several state universities, emphasizing the need for improved standards and accountability in higher education.
