Keisha Lance Bottoms has made history as the first Black woman elected governor in the United States. The Democratic nominee, a former Atlanta mayor and advisor to ex-President Joe Biden, defeated Republican Rick Jackson. Jackson had personally funded his campaign with over $200 million in an attempt to unseat the outgoing governor. Bottoms's victory was significantly boosted by strong turnout from Georgia's Black voting bloc during early voting. This win follows two previous nominations of Black women for governor by Georgia Democrats.
