West Bengal Tribunals Slow to Restore Names Removed from Voter Lists

In West Bengal, approximately 27 lakh individuals were deemed ineligible to vote and had their names removed from the voter list during a special revision. Many of these 'deleted voters' are now awaiting decisions from 19 appellate tribunals, established on Supreme Court orders, to have their voting rights restored. Each tribunal is headed by a retired judge. Although formed in March, the tribunals are expected to take years to process the nearly 38.32 lakh applications received, causing significant anxiety among those affected.
