Vellore police arrested five individuals on Sunday for circulating counterfeit ₹500 currency notes. The arrests followed a delivery agent's suspicion about a ₹1,000 payment made by one of the suspects, Mohammed Rafiq, who runs a hotel. A search of Rafiq's hotel uncovered ₹50,000 in fake notes, with an additional ₹1 lakh seized from other gang members. The group reportedly sourced the counterfeit currency from agents in West Bengal. This incident marks the second such arrest in the area recently, highlighting an ongoing concern with fake currency circulation.
