ब्रिक्स देशों के नेताओं ने नई दिल्ली में 18वें शिखर सम्मेलन में हिस्सा लिया। उन्होंने ब्रिक्स पे जैसी पहलों से स्थानीय मुद्राओं में व्यापार और सीमा पार भुगतान बढ़ाने का वादा किया। ब्रिक्स पेमेंट्स टास्क फोर्स का लक्ष्य सदस्य देशों के बीच तेज, सस्ते और सुलभ भुगतान समाधान उपलब्ध कराना है। इसका मकसद डॉलर को हटाना नहीं, बल्कि भू-राजनीतिक तनाव और प्रतिबंधों के बीच SWIFT जैसे पश्चिमी सिस्टम के विकल्प खोजना है।
