Economic affairs secretary Anuradha Thakur stated that rising global capital costs, driven by high government borrowing, increased risk premiums, and massive AI investments, pose a significant challenge for emerging markets like India. She noted that businesses now prioritize resilience and adaptability, which require more capital. Thakur also highlighted that global trade dynamics influenced by geostrategic concerns and the immense financial demands of the AI build-out are further escalating capital costs. Despite these challenges, India has attracted robust foreign direct investment, indicating confidence in its economic fundamentals.
