An analysis of government purchases by 374 civic bodies in Madhya Pradesh over three years revealed significant price discrepancies. Some local bodies purchased phenyl for as little as Rs 5 per litre, while others paid Rs 33,500 per litre for the same product. Similar vast differences were noted in the procurement of garbage collection vehicles, with one body spending Rs 2 lakh and another Rs 6 lakh for similar vehicles. The state's Minister of Urban Development has ordered a high-level inquiry into these irregularities.
