Times of India · india
A Bulandshahr court has acquitted Naresh Chandra Sharma, a watchman, after nearly 47 years in a 1979 case concerning the alleged disappearance of 140 sacks of wheat. The court cited the prosecution's failure to establish guilt beyond reasonable doubt. A key factor was testimony indicating the vehicle registration number belonged to a car, not a truck, casting doubt on the prosecution's account of transporting the wheat. Sharma, now 67, spent approximately Rs 6 lakh on litigation and travel over the decades, maintaining his innocence and claiming he was framed.
