Chandigarh police have registered an FIR against unidentified individuals for cheating and counterfeiting after fake municipal corporation vending permits surfaced. The racket came to light when a vendor was caught with a forged permit during a challan drive. While two of nine suspected fake slips were found genuine, police are verifying the rest. Investigators are trying to identify the person behind the operation, who allegedly sold permits for ₹2,000-₹3,000. The MC plans random checks in other markets to detect similar cases.
