Press Bodies Condemn Detention of Journalists Covering Delhi Protests
Business Standard · india
Four prominent journalist organisations, including the Press Club of India and the Indian Women's Press Corps, have condemned the detention and harassment of reporters covering protests in Delhi. Police detained several journalists, despite them showing press IDs, and seized their phones and equipment. The organisations stated that press freedom in India cannot be conditional on PIB accreditation, as many digital and independent media outlets lack it. They demanded the immediate release of detained journalists, the return of seized property, and an inquiry into police conduct.
