Supreme Court Rejects Plea to Rotate SC/ST Reserved Seats
TV9 Hindi · politics
The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition seeking the rotation of Lok Sabha and Assembly seats reserved for SC and ST. The court upheld the constitutional validity of Section 9(1)(c) of the Delimitation Act, 2002, stating that determining reserved constituencies and altering this system falls under Parliament's legislative domain. The bench, including CJI DY Chandrachud, refused to issue directives to the legislature on this matter. The petitioner argued that continuous reservation on certain seats denied opportunities to general candidates and limited voters' choices.
