Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has suspended all scheduled executions for 2026 following a botched lethal injection attempt on inmate Christa Pike. Pike survived two rounds of lethal injection drugs during her execution on September 30. The governor ordered an independent review into the incident, stating no further executions will occur until the investigation concludes. This decision halts the scheduled execution of death row inmate Gary Wayne Sutton, who was convicted in the 1992 killings of siblings Tommy Griffin and Connie Branam. Sutton has maintained his innocence for three decades.
