India's Capital Productivity Declines Despite High Investment Rates
Business Standard · business
India's capital productivity has significantly declined in recent years, even as the investment rate remains high. While the economy has achieved over 8 per cent growth seven times in its history, five of those instances occurred post-liberalisation. Despite investment rates around 30 per cent in those periods, the economy is currently not delivering sustained 8 per cent growth. This decline may be attributed to government-led infrastructure spending, which has a longer gestation period. To achieve sustained high growth, reforms must focus on improving capital productivity.
