Japan now has over 100,000 people aged 100 or older, reaching 107,677 centenarians, the highest globally. Of these, 88% are women, with the oldest being 114-year-old Kishimoto Fuyo. Health Minister Kenichiro Ueno expressed delight at long, healthy lives but warned of challenges to the social security system. Experts attribute longevity to healthy diets and active lifestyles, though Japan faces an aging population crisis and declining birth rates.
