एआईएडीएमके के महासचिव एडप्पाडी के. पलानीस्वामी ने नागरकोयल के पास एक कॉलेज छात्रा के कथित यौन उत्पीड़न की कड़ी निंदा की है, जिसमें टीवीके के जिला कार्यकारी समिति के सदस्य का नाम सामने आया है। पलानीस्वामी ने सत्तारूढ़ दल पर महिलाओं की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करने में विफल रहने का आरोप लगाया और सरकार की पहलों की प्रभावशीलता पर सवाल उठाया। उन्होंने राजनीतिक हस्तक्षेप के बिना आरोपी के खिलाफ कानूनी कार्रवाई की मांग की। पलानीस्वामी ने महिलाओं और लड़कियों को अजनबियों से सावधान रहने की सलाह दी, खासकर उन लोगों से जो खुद को टीवीके पदाधिकारी बताते हैं, और सुझाव दिया कि वर्तमान प्रशासन के तहत आत्म-सुरक्षा ही उनका एकमात्र विकल्प है।
