Global Food Prices Hit Nearly Four-Year High Amid Trade Disruptions and Weather Concerns

Times of India · business

Global food prices surged to their highest level in almost four years in September, driven by disruptions to trade routes and weather worries. FAO Food Price Index reached 136.0 points, up from 134.0 in August. Cereals, sugar, and vegetable oils saw price increases, while meat and dairy declined. Sugar prices were particularly impacted by El Nino fears, and wheat futures hit a three-year peak due to Black Sea trade issues. These pressures are expected to soon affect consumer food prices globally.
