Ten Serbian police officers, including one former officer, have been arrested for allegedly using excessive force against students during protests last year. The Ministry of Interior stated that the suspects abused and tortured individuals in a government compound in August 2025 to extract information and intimidate them. These protests followed a deadly railway accident and widespread allegations of corruption under former President Aleksandar Vucic. The arrests come as the new government faces demands for institutional reforms, including within the police and intelligence services, amid hopes for EU accession.
