Researchers in Telangana's Amrabad Tiger Reserve have documented sloth bears hunting shield-tailed snakes, a potentially novel prey for the species. This observation comes from analyzing over a hundred scat samples collected during the monsoon season. Sloth bears, known for their diet of ants and termites, are native to the Indian subcontinent and classified as vulnerable by the IUCN. They primarily inhabit scrub vegetation and rocky terrains. The study marks a significant finding regarding the dietary adaptability of these bears.
