The new bridge is expected to facilitate smoother movement of passengers and freight, boosting regional integration, trade, tourism, and socio-economic development. केंद्रीय मंत्री नितिन गडकरी ने दार्जिलिंग जिले के सेवक में तीस्ता नदी पर 6.9 किमी, 6-लेन पुल के लिए 1,176 करोड़ रुपये की मंजूरी की घोषणा की। इस महत्वपूर्ण बुनियादी ढांचा परियोजना का उद्देश्य सिक्किम, उत्तर-पूर्वी राज्यों और सिलीगुड़ी कॉरिडोर के बीच कनेक्टिविटी को बढ़ाना है। नए पुल से यात्रियों और माल की आवाजाही आसान होने, क्षेत्रीय एकीकरण, व्यापार, पर्यटन और सामाजिक-आर्थिक विकास को बढ़ावा मिलने की उम्मीद है। बेहतर सड़क बुनियादी ढांचा यात्रा के समय को भी कम करेगा और भीड़भाड़ को कम करेगा, जिससे स्थानीय समुदायों और व्यापक अर्थव्यवस्था को लाभ होगा।
