Goulburn, Australia, has unveiled its first community-owned solar farm, a 1.4-megawatt facility with a 4-megawatt-hour battery. The project, initiated by local residents in 2014, was funded by approximately 300 investors, primarily locals, who raised $3.3 million. An additional $2.3 million in grants came from the NSW Government. This cooperative model ensures equal voting rights for all investors, regardless of their financial contribution. The solar farm is capable of powering around 500 homes and feeds electricity directly into the local grid, showcasing a model for regional renewable energy development.
