Tigress T138 Reintroduced to West Bengal's Buxa Tiger Reserve

The Hindu · india

A three-year-old tigress, T138, has been released into West Bengal's Buxa Tiger Reserve as part of a program to re-establish a tiger population. Translocated from Bihar's Valmiki Tiger Reserve, the tigress will initially be kept in a 2.3-hectare enclosure to acclimatize. This initiative aims to create conditions for a viable, self-sustaining tiger population in Buxa, which has historically faced challenges like habitat degradation and low tiger density. The reserve, established in 1983, connects to forests in Bhutan and other Indian wildlife areas.
