Consumer Loans & Credit Card Dues Slow Down Amidst Rise in Gold Loans

Consumer demand is showing signs of slowing, with loans for consumer durables and credit card outstandings experiencing modest year-on-year growth of 2.4% and 3.6% respectively in August. In contrast, banks have witnessed robust demand for secured borrowing. Gold loans saw a significant increase of Rs 98,096 crore in the first five months of FY27, nearly matching the Rs 98,858 crore added by home loans during the same period. Overall bank credit grew by 4.8% between April and August 2026.
उपभोक्ता मांग में नरमी के संकेत दिख रहे हैं। अगस्त में उपभोक्ता टिकाऊ वस्तुओं के लिए ऋण और क्रेडिट कार्ड बकाया में क्रमशः 2.4% और 3.6% की मामूली साल-दर-साल वृद्धि देखी गई। इसके विपरीत, बैंकों ने सुरक्षित उधार के लिए मजबूत मांग देखी है। वित्तीय वर्ष 27 के पहले पाँच महीनों में गोल्ड लोन में ₹98,096 करोड़ की उल्लेखनीय वृद्धि हुई, जो इसी अवधि में होम लोन द्वारा जोड़े गए ₹98,858 करोड़ के लगभग बराबर है। अप्रैल और अगस्त 2026 के बीच बैंक ऋण में कुल 4.8% की वृद्धि हुई।
