Times of India · india

Over 12,000 individuals have died in Odisha over the past seven years due to not wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers. A CAG audit revealed that from 2019 to 2022, 6,429 people died and 10,437 were injured in accidents linked to helmet non-use. The audit also highlighted significant flaws in enforcement, including incorrect challans and pending e-challans, indicating a systemic failure in road safety measures. Despite the Odisha Road Safety Policy's targets, accident and fatality figures have continued to rise, underscoring the urgent need for stricter enforcement and improved monitoring.
