A Scottish man has been convicted of rape after his victim secretly recorded him admitting to the attack during a cafe meeting. The victim arranged the meeting to confront David Smyth about the 2019 incident, during which Smyth confessed to raping her while she slept. Prosecutors used the taped admission, where Smyth said, "I'm sorry I raped you," to secure his conviction. Smyth, who admitted wanting to feel powerful and in control, was found guilty by the High Court in Stirling and will be sentenced on November 19.
