Rashtrakuta-era Gajalaxmi Sculpture Found Neglected in Medak Village

A ninth-century Rashtrakuta-era Gajalaxmi sculpture, featuring a rare depiction of 'Sagara Mathana' above the goddess and a 12-armed Shiva-Nataraja on its reverse, has been discovered neglected in Yanagandla village, Medak district. Heritage experts, including E Sivanagireddy and Sriramoju Haragopal, examined the black granite carving after being alerted by the Kotha Telangana Charitra Brundam. They identified the sculpture as a masterpiece and appealed to villagers to preserve it for future generations. The unique carvings, including the ocean-churning scene and the Nataraja depiction, are considered significant finds for the region.
