Chemical Soil Removal Begins In Kerala Village

Removal of chemical-laced soil from wetlands and ponds in Eriyad panchayat, Thrissur, began on Tuesday. Hazardous waste from the defunct Binani Zinc Limited was illegally dumped in private lands, causing anxiety among residents. A meeting decided to complete the removal within two days, with costs borne by landowners and intermediaries. The contaminated soil will be transported back to Binani Zinc's land in Ernakulam.

एरियाड पंचायत, त्रिशूर में मंगलवार से रासायनिक युक्त मिट्टी को तालाबों और आर्द्रभूमि से हटाने का काम शुरू हो गया है। बंद पड़ी बिननी जिंक लिमिटेड का खतरनाक कचरा निजी ज़मीनों पर अवैध रूप से फेंका गया था, जिससे लोग चिंतित थे। एक बैठक में दो दिन में यह काम पूरा करने का फैसला हुआ, जिसका खर्च ज़मीन मालिकों और बिचौलियों को उठाना होगा। इस दूषित मिट्टी को एर्नाकुलम में बिननी जिंक की ज़मीन पर ले जाया जाएगा।
