The Russian Athletics Federation (RusAF) has urged World Athletics to reconsider its exclusion of Russian competitors from the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games. RusAF argues this decision contradicts International Olympic Committee (IOC) guidance, which recommended allowing young Russian athletes to compete without nationality-based restrictions. World Athletics, however, reaffirmed its ban on Russian and Belarusian athletes in July 2026, continuing restrictions imposed after Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine. RusAF stated the ban denies athletes crucial development opportunities and prevents fair competition against strong peers.
